BVI triathlon saw two new national champions with breakthrough performances by Tash Ruscheinski and Dan Mitchell. Both ladies and men’s races came down to the wire with in each case a strong runner trying to catch a strong swimmer.
“The Steelman” BVI’s toughest multi discipline event was switched from its traditional afternoon Winter slot to a new Spring date. Triathletes reveled in the fabulous flat, fast, traffic free conditions with some superb racing in both adult and junior divisions to the delight of the spectators and best of all..not a mozzie in sight!
The season opening event, the TSC Triathlon, usually provides a gentle introduction to the triathlon calendar …but not this year! Strong Northerlies and fields of seaweed turned the swim into an endurance event and extensive roadworks persuaded some competitors to swap their aero machines for mountain bikes.
The cancellation of the BVI Steelman, the last event of the 2015 BVI triathlon season and the 4 Islands Cup series, resulted in the scores up to the Semi Steel deciding the Series winners for the men, ladies, and kids that competed this year.
