The first event of the Virgin Islands triathlon season took place on Saturday in Road Town.

The fifth annual Tortola Sports Club Triathlon was won by Richard Morgan, the national sprint champion, for the second consecutive year. He shaved almost a minute of last year’s time when finished in 1 hour and 5 seconds.

Mr. Morgan was also the fastest cyclist with a time of 32:15,” while John Argyros was second in the Men’s Division with a time of 1:52,’ followed by Adrian Dale in third place. James Carr finished in fifth place in the Men’s Division, but had the fastest run time of 19:25.”
Gillian Howe won the Women’s Division in 1:15.31.’ She beat last year’s defending champion Kay Reddy, who finished in fourth place with a time of 1:16.12.’ Natasha Ruscheinski was second, but was the fastest overall swimmer in 8:47,” while Sally Blackmore took third in the division.

For the third year, the Corporate Cup was held, which features teams comprised solely of employees of a particular business.

Deloitte 1 won the Corporate Cup, while KPMG took second place in the division. Deloitte fielded three of the five teams in the Corporate Teams Division. Ogier was last year’s winner, but did not have a team on Saturday. Appleby took second last year, but competed in the Open Teams Division this year and finished in second place.

The triathlon featured a 750-metre swim, a 20-kilometre bike ride and a 5-kilometre run.

The swim started at Baughers Bay with the run transition and finish at the TSC.
