BVI Steelman
The BVI Steelman, an Olympic distance triathlon, and one of the most challenging events on the BVI Triathlon Federation calendar, takes place at Beef Island - 1.5k swim, 38k bike and 10k run.

The Course & Rules
Athletes of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take part and enjoy the triathlon, competing either individually or as part of a team. NOTE: Solo athletes are responsible for setting up their own Transition stops before the start of the race. The equipment will be looked after at these stops.
1500 m swim, 38 km bike, 10 k run….
Swim starts and finishes at emergency ramp opposite end of the airport runway. Competitors swim right to first buoy (First Buoy) then into Well Bay, around two buoys, and back to First Buoy then the ramp.
Bike is 9 ¾ laps of Beef Island from ramp towards Beef Island bridge, turnaround at Little Mountain junction, then along main road to turnaround at junction with old road to Minine’s nursery (Minine’s junction) the bike finishing at Minine’s Junction.
Run starts and finishes at Minine’s Junction and is 3 laps. One lap is down old airport road to junction with main road, then past airport terminal, around the back of Jeremy’s kitchen, up to Minine’s junction, then out to Minine’s nursery gates and back.

Murphy Defends Her Crown, Stephenson Wins His First In 2021 Steelman
In the 2021 BVI Steelman at Beef Island, Johanna Murphy defended her BVI Steelman crown, while Mark Stephenson earned his first. Murphy completed the course in 2 hrs 45 minutes and 58 seconds, while Stephenson finished with a time of 2:37.44.

“The Steelman” BVI’s toughest multi discipline event was switched from its traditional afternoon Winter slot to a new Spring date. Triathletes reveled in the fabulous flat, fast, traffic free conditions with some superb racing in both adult and junior divisions to the delight of the spectators and best of all..not a mozzie in sight!
