

The Olympic course consists of a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike ride and a 10km run. Athletes of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take part and enjoy the triathlon, competing either individually or a part of a team. NOTE: Solo athletes are responsible for setting up their own Transition stops before the start of the race. The equipment will be looked after at these stops. 1. THE SWIM Tri-athletes start the swim in Well Bay, Beef Island at three (promptly) in the afternoon. The swimmers set out on a triangular 1.5km course before finishing out on the slipway to the Airport highway. (NOTE. Please keep the slipway clear. Bikes must be left on grass to the side of the slipway, or on the opposite side of the road leaning against the airport fence) TRANSITION 1 Team swimmers tag their Biker at the top of the slipway. Solo competitors change on the grass by the side of the slipway. 2. THE BIKE **** NEW COURSE FOR 2007 **** Cyclists must first turn right towards the airport and go through the airport service road. The cyclists then turn right out of the airport. This is the start of lap 1. The cyclists then complete 2 complete laps up to HLSCC, turning round at the roundabout at the college. This is then followed by 2 laps of Beef Island: The bikers follow the airport road down until the turning for Little Mountain, turn around in the Little Mountain turning (DO NOT ENTER LITTLE MOUNTAIN ESTATE) and then back down to the airport, going back through the airport service road. The cycle ride finishes on the grass by the little wooden bridge which goes to D'Best Cup coffee shop in Trellis Bay. Cyclists must dismount before crossing the bridge. TRANSITION 2 Team cyclists tag their runners on the grass by the little bridge. Solo competitors change in this area. 3. RUN *** NEW COURSE FOR 2007*** From the wooden bridge the runners turn down the dirt track that goes behind the Trellis Bay Cyber Cafe. The runners follow the track up to the main road. Follow the main road left briefly before taking the left turn down towards Minine’s garden centre until the turning point (Do not go all the way to Minine's garden centre). On the way back runners keep left following the old airport road to the exist to cross the road to the airport. Cross the road and follow the loop through the airport back to the finish line. Back at the little wooden bridge, runners cross the bridge to start their second lap. The finish is back where the runners started from (and the bikes finished). (Note. There is a time limit set for finishing the first leg of the run by 6.00pm. Runners will not be allowed to complete the course if they finish the first leg after this time) There will be a honesty bar and gazebo at the finish line for spectators. There will be party, music and food at Trellis Bay Cyber Cafe after the event, from 6pm. Buffet dinner included in the price of competitors entrance fee. Spectators and supporters very welcome. Preregistration is essential prior to the race IMPORTANT: There will be a mandatory formal sign in, issue of numbers, course briefing and Carbo Load at the Sports Club from 6pm to 8pm the evening before - Friday 5th October. Given the nature of the bike course, ie. flat and fast, drafting will be allowed in the race. Mountain bikes, Tri bikes and road bikes allowed. Cyclists must wear a helmet. No aero bars |
