2010 BVI National Sprint Championship Report

An impressive grid featuring no less than five former triathlon race winners lined up Saturday morning for BVI Triathlon Federation’s first national sprint championship over an exciting new course at Soper’s Hole including brand new Chris Spencer designed bike racks and 5 foot monster swim buoys.

Tension on the start line ran high in a wide open men’s event featuring Andrew “Tubes” Thompson, lightning quick on the bike but vulnerable on the run, Adrian “Road Runner” Dale a wing heeled runner, but vulnerable on the swim, Adrian “Transylvanian Express” Copacaneau , the fastest triathlete this side of Romania, Antony “Chorpedo” Spencer strong in the water but vulnerable on the bike, and Owen Waters all round tough hombre.

“Tubes” Thompson wins 2009 TRIBVI

Andrew “Tubes” Thompson took control of the TRIBVI event shortly after the swim course and led all the way to victory in 1 hour 1 minute, 28 seconds last Sunday at Nanny Cay. The event featured an altered course of a 400 meter swim, in the Nanny Cay lagoon. Four charged the course that also included a 12-mile bike from Nanny Cay down to Frenchman’s Cay junction in West End and back to Nanny Cay, and a five-mile run from Nanny Cay to Pockwood Pond and back to Nanny Cay.

2008 TSC TRi Report

The rising sun broke through low clouds over Baughers Bay beach to reveal a record fifty six competitors limbering up for this years 4th TSC Triathlon.

At the command of chief umpire Richard White the swimmers, solo competitors and team members alike, tore off into the still waters of Road Town harbour heading for the first mark of the 750 metre swim course. Much milling of arms and thrashing of legs ensued, as swimmers battled for prime position at the first marker. To the delight and cheers of the crowd Catheryn Hempel surged ahead of the pack setting an early lead for Maples Girls As the race progressed former winner Antony ‘the Chorpedo’ Spencer forged to the front with mystery competitor Terry Donnavon right on his toes.
