Ghiorse Wins 2007 Duathlon

Chris Ghiorse won the Double D Duathlon in Apple Bay last weekend.  The Duathletes started the race Saturday
morning, sprinting from Bomba Shack, up over the steep Sugar Mill hill and down to Mrs Scatliffes, turning around
and then running back over Sugar Mill hill and up to Bombas for the run-bike transition.

As the eager competitors completed the first running leg and entered the bike transition stage, Ghiorse took
control of the race.   The bikers first climbed over Long Bay hill, weakened from the 5k run, and were then faced
with two tough off-road climbs, up to Steel Point and Belmont.  Due to the heavy rain during the week, the
Duathletes had the added challenge of splattering through the mud and puddles.

As the weary athletes took to the third leg, another run, Ghiorse extended his lead.  The runners ran back down
to Mrs Scatliffes, thus having to climb the now grueling Sugar Mill hill for the third and fourth time.

Chris Ghiorse took the first place, with Simon Cook trailing in second and Dara Smith taking an excellent third
place.
